Summary:

Fundraising through plain donations or discounted commissions for a great purpose! Offering discounted commissions to raise money for volunteer work at a Kenyan (in Africa) orphanage during the Christmas holiday. Volunteers are needed in Africa during the holidays to spend time with children who don't have families. Unfortunately, volunteering in Africa is not cheap and cost deters people from doing so. There are fees such as program registration fees, visa obtainment, vaccinations and flight (to name a few) that have to be paid. I am raising money so these kids don't have to spend Christmas alone. I'm hoping to get some fundings via commission (I will work my butt off for this) or from donations in general! I chose IFRE Volunteers to volunteer through and they are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which means if you send a check out for my cause, you are able to write it off for your taxes though the IRS! Below are other ways to support me/pay. I hope to gain your help for my cause!

Detailed information:
:bulletgreen: Reason:
Recently, I had to write a funeral speech for my wonderful and brave grandfather who passed away. He sacrificed a lot for his family to life a good life in America. While I wrote this, I thought about the 'good life' I have here. I am very lucky and grateful. He's a great role model. I also thought about people out there who don't have this 'good life' as people would call it. There are children out there who don't live in country like the US. There are children who starve and struggle to live every day like my family did when they lived in Asia during a period of war. There are children who feel lonely because of being left at orphanages due to finances, overwhelming responsibility, AIDS/HIV and/or other reasons. I had planned to take a trip to a different country this year for leisure. As I wrote this speech, I wanted to change that. I've always wanted to volunteer abroad in a program where I'm really experiencing the culture of where I'm located; however, I always knew it was expensive. I put my thinking cap on and decided to use the world wide web as a way to help fund my goal for the year. I chose IFRE (www.ifrevolunteers.org/) as the volunteer program I wanted to go through. I spoke to a representative there and they were the most helpful in answering any of the questions I had and even gave me advice. Also, it allowed me a reasonable time frame for volunteering before my study abroad program in Guatemala started. I really wanted to do something else for others before concentrating on strictly 'myself' and my education. I chose Kenya as the country to visit as it's not commonly visited by most Americans and it's currently in need of volunteers for orphanages during the winter months. It is also full of culture and life and I really wanted to live this and experience it for myself. I felt this was the best way to do so. :)

:bulletgreen: What I will bedoing, from IFRE's fundraising letter:
Through her efforts, and those around her, Jade will contribute to the overall wellbeing of the people in Kenya. She will be joined by other skilled and talented volunteers in Kenya, and will give her time to work in the caring required bettering their lives. She will work with many others throughout the one week of her time in Kenya. She will be volunteering in bringing hope, joy and laughter to the children of Kenya.
She will aid cross-cultural exchange by having the opportunity to learn the Kenyan culture and language. In her day to day interactions she will contribute by helping
kids and the staff in the project.

:bulletgreen: What my donation amount goes towards!
My funds go towards my goal of $3,700 for volunteering in an orphanage located in Kenya during my winter break. I am volunteering with a non-profit organization based in the USA named IFRE Volunteers; this means: IFRE is a 501 (c) 3, Non-Profit Organization with the US IRS. IFRE will provide donors/sponsors with receipts so they can write off any donated amounts on their taxes (tax deductible) if they live in the USA. Volunteering abroad deters many interested people because of the costly fees which include food, travel, hotel, and so much more. I plan to use the $3,700 to pay for: -My roundtrip ticket from Hector International Airport in North Dakota to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Kenya -Obtaining a visa -Vaccinations required before arrival -Registration fee for the IFRE Volunteers program -The program fee (which entails: all meals, accommodations, comprehensive traveler's insurance, 24/7 support from our in-country staff, and a donation to the orphanage, language/cultural immersion) -Pick up/drop off -Materials for teaching arts/crafts: drawing pads, colored pencils, erasers, #2 pencils, etc. -Possible fees tied to internet usage (for updating my blog on the volunteer project), tips and taxes.

Feel free to ask more questions if you'd like to! :la:
